Our Story

The Colby Design firm was established in 1987 by Rudolph Colby. Located in Houston’s museum district, its humble feel and customer oriented service have not changed since its inception. Colby Design’s scope of specialization is extensive and far reaching; ranging from residential and commercial design of full scale projects, to renovations, additions, and even custom product designs.

Rudolph Colby apprenticed under architects, and fellow Houstonians, Lucian Hood and Howard Barnstone until 1987.  Colby later teamed up with Robert Morris, AIA. Together with Mr. Morris and staff, the Colby Design firm has grown from its beginnings in a small office atop the “Ones a Meal” restaurant in the historic River Oaks (Shopping) Center.

Many of Colby Design’s projects can be seen in the River Oaks and Memorial residential communities in Houston. A few notable commercial projects include the Backstreet Café and Hugo’s Restaurant (winner of the GHPA Good Brick Award).

Colby Design has helped many individuals and companies with solving design problems, and bringing  concepts to life with inspiring spaces and decor. The office's  detail oriented focus provides knowledge and insight to the design community and to nationwide clientele.
